TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival April 15 to 24 2011

A snowy start to the season coupled with a gloriously busy Holiday period has the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, April 15-24, gearing up for a groundbreaking 16th Festival. New events and anniversaries have contributed to the immense positivity surrounding TWSSF 2011, and predictions of the “best festival yet” are flying rampant.

Celebrating its ‘Sweet Sixteen’ this year, TWSSF will be kicking up its ski-boots, lighting and burning everyone of those 16 candles, at both ends. To mark the 10th anniversary of the 72hr Filmmaker Showdown there will a very special presentation of winning films and gems from the past decade. The Filmmaker Showdown has been one of the most popular events in TWSSF’s history, selling out in record time each year. Designed originally for professional filmmakers, the Showdown has morphed into an opportunity for anyone who has a camera, and knows how to use it, to present their best work. Now a benchmark in localised filmmaking, and attracting international entrants, the 72hr Filmmaker Showdown is rolling back the reel, dusting off the projector and preparing for Academy Award winning performances from our MC, our audience and our Filmmakers. With over $4500 in cash and tons of prizes up for grabs we are celebrating the best of the last 10 years and awarding prizes from best performance, to best cinematography to best director. Awards, finalist montages, retrospectives and plenty of surprises will make this THE night for celebrating all things film.

The return of the Big Air Championship to the ski line-up has been much anticipated and brings back one of the most popular and technically advanced elements of the festival. The integration of Slopestyle, Big Air and Super Pipe in the WSI itinerary has streamlined the programming and placed a stronger focus on the talents of the athletes in this year’s installment.
